Visitors from Morocco in the Browsk Forest District

On 23 June, this year, a delegation from Marocco headed by Mr. Adbeladim Lhafi, High Commissioner for Water and Forests and Struggle against Desertification, has visited Białowieża Forest.

Foresters have prepared a field programme, which in addition to the typical issues of forest management and nature conservation, also includes hydrology issues (“Siemianówka” water reservoir with its small hydroelectric power station) and the restoration of traditional beekeeping in the woods.

The Moroccans were strongly interested in the latter issue, i.e. in the history of forest beekeeping and future prospects of this activity.

They regretted that the beehives are not yet inhabited, because they were willing to try beehive honey, however after 9 o’clock p.m., due to the ongoing Ramadan.
