The first two Polish tangas* in Bashkiria.
*Tanga – an ownership sign.
On 24.06-01.07.2015, in the framework of the project, “Traditional beekeeping: rescue of wild bees in the woods”, co-financed by so called Norway Grants, a visit by representatives of the project took place in Bashkiria. The representatives of forest districts, Regional Directorate of State Forests in Bialystok, University of Białystok, and Warsaw University of Life Sciences, have familiarized themselves with beekeeping in National Park Shulgan-Tash and beekeeping in its surroundings. During the stay, in collaboration with the staff of the park, two beehives have been made. On the Polish part, beehives were made by the staff of Augustów Forest District: Adam Korzeniecki and Adam Sieńko. So far, it was the Bashkirs who made beehives and beehive logs in Poland. This time, with joint efforts, beehives were made in two century-old pines. In accordance with tradition, the creators placed on the pines their ownership signs, which are called tangas in Bashkir. What is interesting, on one beehive two Bashkir tangas, and one Tatar and one Polish tanga were placed. Bashkir and Polish tangas were placed on the other beehive. Two Polish ownership signs are the first permanent traces of cooperation between the Poles and the Bashkirs. We hope that next year the beehives will be settled by bees.
