Beehive logs are already hung!

In the framework of the project "Traditional beekeeping: rescue of wild bees in the woods" being implemented by four forest districts of National Forest Regional Directorate in Bialystok: of Augustow (Augustów Primeval Forest), Browsk (Browsk Forest), Maskulinskie (Pisz Forest) and Supraśl (Knyszyn Primeval Forest), today, i.e. April 14, Browsk Forest District has installed beehive logs, thinking about wild bees' settling in the season of 2014. We hope that logs installed on old oaks, in the place most suitable for bees, will be settled at the earliest opportunity during the forthcoming swarming.

Beehive logs have been made by foresters from Bashkiria (Southern Urals) yet in the last year, but it was too late to install them. The spring has come, so it is time that facilitates this operation. Browsk Forest District, apart from beehive logs installed today, has also a third one (let's hope bees settle it as soon as possible), from surroundings of which a video camera will start streaming live view in few days. The district has also two additional beehives "carved" in live, very old pine trees, where we also hope for the success of using them by our honeymaking insects. Thus, we are gradually returning to the tradition, which, unfortunately, due to different circumstances has been forgotten yet in 19th century. And beehive logs are nothing else than tree beehives made according to old standards. They are forerunners of todays, known to all, apiaries.
