Inauguration of the project "Traditional beekeeping: rescue of wild bees in the woods"

12th June 2014 in the Logos Hotel Complex a conference inaugurated the project: „Traditional beekeeping : rescue of wild bees in the woods".

The conference was opened with a spot and photocast inagurating the project. The Chief Forester of Augustów Forest District, Tadeusz Wasilewski, welcomed the guests and numerous enthusiasts of traditional and modern beekeeping.

Over a hundred guests arrived.
Arrived: Ryszard Ziemblicki – Director of the State Forest Regional Directorate, Chief Foresters of partner and nearby forest districts interested in traditional beekeeping, Kazimierz Kożuchowski – Mayor of Augustów, Bogdan Dyjuk – Chairman of Regional Council of Podlaskie Voivodeship, Marek Pirsztuk – District Veterinary Officer, Beata Bezubik – Deputy Director of Regional Directorate for Enviromental Protection, Roman Skąpski – Director of Biebrza National Park, Mariusz Sachamcinski – Director of Łomża Landscape Park of the Narew Valley.

After the inauguration, the present were initiated into the subject of beekeeping during the lecture of Mrs. Beata Madras-Majewska, PhD with habilitation, Prof. at WULS. Lectures titled „Beekeeping – an old method of forest beekeeping” and „The biology of bees” brought to the attention how important is the role of bees in ecosystem and brought up first topics for discussion during coffee break.

When everyone took their seats in the hall again, partners of the project presented themselves and explained what tasks in the project will be realized. Subsequently, there was a projection of archival film on beekeeping in Grodno Forest, after which a lively discussion arose. Answers to the participants most bothering questions were uttered. The meeting was ended with a dinner during which discussions concerning the realization of the project were continued. Many other issues that can contribute to the improvement of the realization of the project, and thus taking part in the restoration of traditional beekeeping, were also discussed.

During registration each conference participant received a commemorative set that included a notebook with logotypes of project parnters and institutions co-funding the undertaking, a book titled „Okruchy” by Mrs. Janina Osewska, and a pen made of recycled plastic and an eco-friendly bag with the logo of State Forests.
