Barciowisko 2016 (1)

 Barciowisko 2016
This year, eleven two-person teams took part in BARCIOWISKO (in previous years, there were ten teams participating). Many strong teams were entered by associations interested in tree beekeeping, i.e. “Natura i Człowiek”, “Zielona Barć” and three teams from “Bractwo Bartne”. What is more, a family of beekeepers from Suwałki also made log hives - Mr Tadeusz Sawionek with his daughter, Katarzyna. The majority of competitors were foresters - one team from each forest district: Płaska, Szczebra, Rajgród, Augustów as well as Janów Lubelski - a remote and very interested in tree beekeeping district. Two foreigners participated in the competition: from Italy - Antonio Gurliaccio and Osipau Ivan from Belarus (Bractwo Bartne). A special guest of BARCIOWISKO 2016 was the Mayor of Augustów - Wojciech Walulik.
During the competition, it was possible to see a photographic exhibition on tree beekeeping. The competitors received special t-shirts and when working, they could use parameters of a log hive model. Participants and guests received promotional ecological bags, stickers and key chains from the Forest District. Moreover, postcards and information materials about the protection of bees were distributed.
As every year, there were some attractions for the youngest - an educational stand with games and artistic workshop. Among many artistic works, a novelty and an absolute hit was a possibility of making a bee by hand from waste materials.
Each game participant received a small gift. There was also honey tasting, whereas selected products could be bought from local producers.
Hard work brought benefits. In the log hive competition, the winning team was the Płaska Forest District consisting of: Radosław Puczyłowski and Tomasz Pająk.  The second place was taken by Adam Kolator and Adam Korzeniecki from the Augustów Forest District. The remaining teams shared the third place. The Forest District manager, Mirosław Sienkiewicz awarded prizes to competitors consisting of complete sets of tree beekeeping tools, honey containers and books on tree beekeeping.
It is worth emphasising that the goal of all BARCIOWISKO’s efforts is to promote the protection of wild bees and learn how to make a log hive on your own.  A very practical result is the completion of eleven log hives which, after being installed in various parts of Poland, will make many swarms of bees survive.
We would like to thank all participants for joint work and fun.
