Science and wild beehives
In the framework of the project restoring traditional beekeeping in forests, scientific protection objectives are being continued. Once again, research workers of SGGW (Warsaw University of Life Sciences) came to beehives and beehive logs in order to examine the current condition of the bees.
Academic patronage aims to determine the effectiveness of the restocking of beehives and beehive logs, and to identify the inhabiting bee breeds. In particular, this applies to identification of bee types, current health condition, occurrence and eradication of potential diseases, identification of needs, scope and methods of supplemental feeding.
In order to take samples, it was necessary to open the selected beehive and beehive logs. It was a spectacular undertaking to get live bees out of specially prepared containers. In the case of yet uninhabited beehives and beehive logs, researchers are developing methods for introduction of wild forest bees from beekeeping closed areas.
